I have so many ideas for the title of this post. Girls Weekend, Party of One. My Solo-Vacation. Re-capturing Myself. Or what it was... my first night away from C.
Loyal readers know I have wanted this for sometime. I Wishlist Wednesday'ed about it months ago. And one of my main reasons for not going to BlogHer '10. But the time finally came for me to get away, relax and sleep... alone.
Some may think its odd that all I wanted for months was a night to myself. To go to bed when I wanted and to sleep as long as I wished. To not be woken up in the middle of the night by baby, or cat. My husband has been begging me to spend a night in a hotel since C was about 6 months old. But I was scared and not ready. Although this summer I decided it was time.
I would have been happy for a night at the JFK Hilton. Or the Days Inn by the Expressway. But my husband, being the generous man that he is, wanted this "trip" to be special... and over the top. He booked me for a night at The Benjamin Hotel in midtown Manhattan. He chose this hotel because they specialize in a good night's sleep. No, really... they have a sleep concierge, a pillow menu and a Dream Package (which is what I did). The Dream Package includes a night in the hotel, some drinks, a spa credit (I had an 80 minute massage) and a little baggie of sleep goodies.
On Friday, I was set to go. I was very nervous all day and even cried a little bit about leaving. I knew C would be in good hands, even though hubby too was nervous about spending so much time with C, without my help! But at 3pm I left, took the subway into the city, checked in and relaxed. I had some fruit, tea and watched Oprah. At 5pm, I went down to the fitness room and spent 30 minutes on the treadmill. I even ran one mile (I haven't run or worked out since my second trimester, almost two years ago!). It felt so good to be able to do an activity I enjoy (although I was super sore the next day). At 6pm I went in for my glorious massage. Ahhhh.... it was great!
After the spa, I ordered in from my favorite Manhattan burrito place. Yeah I know, I was staying at a swanky hotel with room service, but all I wanted was delivery from Blockheads. Hubby and I used to order from there all the time when we lived in the city. So a night of working out and ordering burritos, very much like my life three years ago!
After dinner, I took a soak and watched Back to the Future that happened to be on Nick at Night. Then I watched Twilight on my portable DVD player and to sleep I went. I slept in until after 8, which is the latest I've slept since the morning of March 17th, 2009.
When I woke up, I was anxious to get home, but lingered in the room drinking coffee and reading With Friends Like These. I then checked out and grabbed a delicious bagel before I hopped on the subway and got to see my little dude. The boys did well without me. C went 20 hours or so without nursing (I had to pump twice... I'm glad I brought along my Medela Pump in Style) and my husband was wonderful. I wish I had done this earlier... and its something I plan to do at least once a year.
Sorry no photos... my camera is broken! I think the little guy had something to do with it... but it was 5 years old...
