Carried away in Cary, NC

>> Monday, August 23, 2010

Well actually I am writing about the fun toddler activities we found to occupy the C-man while in the Raleigh/Cary, North Carolina area. We went down to NC with my dad, to visit my Grandpa, two aunts and cousin. And pre-baby trips to Cary meant eating, sleeping, going for walks and maybe a trip to the Cary Towne Center, but with a toddler, we had to have some better tricks up our sleeve. So each day after the glorious nap, we found an activity for C.

Raleigh Children's Museum/Marbles. This place was awesome! C, my dad and I had a blast. Only $5 each for admission and there was a ton of cool stuff for C to play on and with. He especially liked the water tank, the outdoor garden and the "sports" area where he could dance in front of a mirror. Oh and the Money-palooza exhibit which was filled with green and gold balls for him to play with! I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting the Raleigh area. Its downtown, you can park in the lot across the street and spend quite an afternoon!

Cary Towne Center. My Grandpa lives walking distance from this mall, although on this trip it was too hot to walk so we actually went to the mall to walk... and in C's case, to play. He rode the carousel and then ran around the little play area. Nothing great but it was air conditioned and C had fun with the other kids.

Barnes & Noble. Again, we can walk to this really nice and big B&N and one afternoon we headed over to the B&N children's area for C to run around and play with the books. This B&N has a train table and a stage area where kids can climb. Any town you visit, a B&N is a good way to spend an hour in the AC.

Monkey Joe's. I had never heard of this place, but my aunt suggested we check it out. It was really for older kids, but it only cost $5 for C to go in and play (and us adults to play with him), so it was money well spent. This place is basically a crazy indoor play space filled with multiple bouncy houses. There was a bouncy castle specifically for kids under 3, but C was a little afraid. It was hard for him to walk in the castle. But he ran around the place, chasing big kids (a favorite C activity) and then he warmed up a bit in the Disney Cars bouncy, where I broke the rules and bounced him up and down. We also went on the big bouncy slides, I had to carefully carry him up the ladder, but he loved it! I can foresee spending more and more time at this place as the little dude gets older.

So NC was a great trip. Awesome family time, too hot for words, and fun activities for the little one. I do love the south and I can't wait to get back!

Looks like a fun trip! And what a doll your son is, really. I'm obsessed with carousels. Have you been to Pier 62 yet? We're having Bub's first birthday there.
